- Pray for Magdeburg in eastern Germany.
Join with Christian churches in Germany as they mourn with and pray for families who lost loved ones in a terrorist attack on December 20th. A man drove a car into a crowd at a Christmas Market in Magdeburg, killing at least five people and injuring over two hundred others. Pray for these families to be comforted and for healing of the injured.
Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 147:3 – “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
- Pray for Azerbaijan.
A passenger plane flying from Azerbaijan to Russia crashed on Christmas day leaving half of the sixth-two passengers and five crew members dead. Many were treated at a nearby hospital. Pray for those who lost loved ones and for healing of the injured.
Matthew 5:4 – “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – NIV
Matthew 5:4 – “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.” – The Message
James 5:16 – “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
- Pray for the oppressed in Sudan and Mozambique.
Due to civil war and political instability civilians in Sudan have faced death, displacement, trauma, and now are facing a famine. There is not just a lack of food but “a profound breakdown of health, livelihoods, and social structures, leaving entire communities in a state of desperation.” Food is hard to find and expensive, and aid groups are struggling “to reach the most vulnerable as waring parties limit access.” In Mozambique more pressure is expected on Christians by Islamist as attacks increase. Mozambique is also in need of prayer as the death toll from cyclone Chido rose to one- hundred-twenty people. Pray for food for Sudan and pray for those mourning in Mozambique and pray for peace in both countries and righteous leadership.
Isaiah 40:28-31 – “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
- Continue prayers for Taiwan.
China continues to pressure Taiwan and is now warning the United States they are “playing with fire” in their aid to Taiwan. Pray for Taiwan’s continued democracy and for the United States continued support.
Psalms 111:2-4 – “Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.”
- Pray for peace in Israel and in Ukraine.
Israel intercepted another missile launched from Yemen this past week. “The Iranian-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for attack.” Pray for terrorist attacks to end.
Ukraine was hit by ballistic missiles this week, one hitting the second oldest church in Kyiv, killing at least two people and injuring over twenty others. Missiles also caused damage to the National House of Music and to diplomatic buildings. On Christmas day there was a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Russia ignored “appeals from Pope Francis for a Christmas truce in the war-torn nation and around the world.” Pray for this war to end.
Isaiah 40:22-24 – “God sits high above the round ball of earth. The people look like mere ants. He stretches out the skies like a canvas, yes, like a tent canvas to live under. He ignores what all the princes say and do. The rulers of the earth count for nothing. Princes and rulers don’t amount to much. Like seeds barely rooted, just sprouted, they shrivel when God blows on them. Like flecks of chaff, they’re gone with the wind.”
Proverbs 3:7 – “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.”
Praying good health and God’s blessings to all in the New Year!
