“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6: 9-10

“So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper. . .” Deuteronomy 5: 32- 33.

God tells us in Leviticus, “you shall love your neighbor as yourself” and in Exodus to “not mistreat or oppress a foreigner” and to “not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless.” Jesus tells us to feed the hungry, give a drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothed the naked, and to visit the sick and the imprisoned. See Matthew 25: 35-40

Are we following the instructions given to us by God and his son, Jesus? Or are we spending much of our time analyzing and thinking about what we should be doing for the Kingdom of God? Let us not get caught up in the specifics, we all know the basics, or can easily locate them in our Bible, so let us just do them. “God has given us in Scripture a full revelation of his nature and his character. And he has given us an unmistakably clear mandate to share him and his Word to those who have not heard. If we focus on obeying him on a daily basis – wherever we are he will lead us where he wants us to go and to the people he wants us to reach.” (‘A Treasury of Wisdom Journal, Ken and Angela Abraham, Day, April 29, Brother Andrew). Do not be paralyzed by over thinking and do nothing, take action. Jesus left his disciples with a mission; it is still our mission today.

“Because after Jesus ascended to heaven, those twelve men would be charged with His mission: to tell the world the good news that relationship with God can be restored. That heaven awaits the followers of Jesus. That anyone who believes Jesus is God’s Son will be saved. And that following Jesus means loving God and people the way He did: the lepers who were social outcasts, the blind and lame who were societal burdens, the women and servants who were marginalized and disenfranchised; the children who were vulnerable and overlooked; the well to-do who were hopelessly self-sufficient; the prodigals, the broken, and the bent. They all shared the same need – their total inability to rescue themselves. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. We still must rescue and lead people to the one who made them, loves them, can heal them and restore them. There is a war being waged – darkness versus light – and to participate in God’s sure victory, we must be fearless in our self-denial and bold in telling the truth. We must be tenacious in our faith that God will be faithful to His word and His work. We must love those He loves, serve those He serves, and refuse to relent in doing the good Jesus did. And all for His sake because He loves us, because He rescued us, and because we love Him back. And until He returns, the mission will remain.” From ‘The Chosen, 40 Days with Jesus’, Amanda Jenkins, Kristen Hendricks, & Dallas Jenkins, copyright 2019, pages 172,173.

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also shall wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a message greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13: 14-16. Jesus came to earth to save and serve. “Jesus finally had to get down on his hands and knees and wash their (the disciples) feet, the menial service of a slave, to burn into their minds that he had called them to Serve and not to Rule.” (Halley’s Bible Handbook, Henry H. Halley copyright 1927). And after Jesus washed their feet and told them to do the same and tells us to do the same, “He wanted us to serve in the same spirit. He taught us that greatness is always measured by service. There is no loving others without living for others”. (What The Bible is All About, Henrietta C. Mears, copyright 1953, page 407). In the 2022 Daily Guideposts for April 29 on page 129 Jacquelin Wheelock wrote that the Holy Spirit is teaching us “the language of love and servanthood.” She goes on to say: “…gestures of caring often out strip the most eloquent sermons and the most jaw-dropping scenes in nature,…”

Pray and choose to follow the commands in the Holy Scripture to love your neighbor and be a servant. To love one another is to live for one another and fulfill the mission Christ gave us until his return.
